Enhanced Provision

At Yohden Primary School, we have two rooms dedicated to support pupils with their needs. Pupils in the Enhanced Provision may have social communication difficulties, autism or be working significantly behind their expected academic levels.

Places within our Enhanced Provision are not allocated directly by the school. If you feel that your child may require a place within the Enhanced Provision, this must be discussed with your child’s SEND Caseworker.

All requests for a place must go through the appropriate SEND process, and places are allocated by the Local Authority. The school is unable to offer or guarantee a place directly.

The number of pupils in the Enhanced Provision is small compared to pupils' normal classroom environment with a higher adult to child ratio.

All pupils accessing the Enhanced Provisions are integrated back into their mainstream year group for breaks, lunchtimes and wider opportunities including assemblies and swimming. This promotes inclusion.

To set up the Enhanced Provision, we have worked closely with a range of professionals and members of the SEND team from the local authority.

The local authority have visited the Enhanced Provision this past year to support its implementation which opened up in April 2026.

In a review from the local authority the SEND team stated that,

'The Hub’s development has supported the school’s overall aims to continue to build inclusive capacity to meet the needs of all their children. There is passionate, committed and reflective leadership around SEND provision in school. Provision is dynamic, fluid, organic and appropriate.'

Sensory and gross motor development

Pupils who access the Enhanced Provision have daily sensory time.

This can involve access to climbing equipment in the hall or other planned sessions such as obstacle courses, games and yoga.

Our Enhanced Provision (EP) consists of two welcoming and purposefully organised classrooms, with learning environments designed around pupils' individual stages of development. Pupils also have access to a dedicated outdoor learning area, providing additional opportunities for exploration, physical development and learning through play.

Room 1 - Early Years Provision

Room 1 provides an Early Years-based learning environment, where pupils are supported to develop key skills through a combination of structured teaching, play-based learning and individualised support.

Pupils are supported by experienced members of staff to access their individualised and bespoke areas of learning, with 1:1 support provided as and when required to ensure that each pupil can engage successfully with their learning and make progress towards their individual outcomes.

A strong focus is placed on developing communication and language skills. Pupils are supported through a range of approaches, including Makaton, visual resources, learning through play, turn-taking activities with peers, listening and attention activities, and intensive interaction.

We also place a strong emphasis on social and emotional development. Pupils are supported to understand and manage their emotions and develop self-regulation and self-awareness. Opportunities to develop social skills, cooperation and confidence are embedded throughout the school day, helping pupils to build positive relationships and become increasingly independent.

Our approach is centred on creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil is valued, supported and encouraged to develop their individual strengths, confidence and independence.

Room 2

Room 2 provides pupils with access to a wide breadth of curriculum subjects, including the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, alongside a range of additional subjects and learning experiences.

Pupils also have access to additional provisions and personalised learning opportunities, which are tailored to their individual needs and designed to enhance their learning, development and wellbeing.

Alongside the National Curriculum, pupils follow a bespoke curriculum designed to develop essential skills for life, including communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, independence, self-care, problem-solving and developing positive relationships.

Pupils have access to a range of activities that support their physical, sensory and emotional development, including a sensory diet, fine motor activities and gross motor activities. The class also makes regular use of the school garden, providing opportunities for outdoor learning, exploration, physical development and developing an understanding of the natural environment.

Room 2 operates a flexible and fluid staffing model, with all staff playing an active role in providing education and meeting the individual needs of pupils. This collaborative approach ensures that pupils receive consistent, personalised support throughout the school day.
